Lee Jakob (fifth semester – Nachlass [Personal effects], 2010) has used his props and material to create an installation for this exhibition at the CoalMine, to accompany the photographic work presented as a book. His work Nachlass, Rahel Salzmann (1907-1998) tells the story of a fictional woman, Rahel Salzmann, using an archive of pictures, letters and found objects. Each picture is a glimpse into the life of an unknown woman, a section of her history. The viewer can put together the pieces of the puzzle to create an individual story. Jakob is interested here in how objects can take on new meanings when they are mediated through photographs. She works by editing the material to hand, always concentrating on questions of memory and forgetting.
